First Eco School accreditation
Awareness of and respect for the environment is one of the fundamental values of CIPEC International School. Beyond words, it is important that we remember this on a daily basis at school. This is the reason why it was decided to carry out environmental projects and to apply for the accreditation ECO Ecole.
In this context, the historical use of disposable crockery at school has been replaced by traditional crockery. To implement this, it was necessary to acquire the appropriate cleaning equipment and to reinforce the canteen workforce, as clearing tables, washing-up and tidying away the crockery for the different services required a different organization and more time.
All the incandescent light bulbs in the school have been replaced by LED light bulbs and most of them have been equipped with motion sensors to avoid lights being permanently left on.
For the first year of Eco School accreditation, CIPEC International School chose ‘Waste Management’ for a theme.
It was in this context that the CIPEC vegetable garden was created and also equipped with two composters. The former was made by students from the 4th and 5th grades and the latter was supplied by La Métropole Aix-Marseille. From now on, at the end of each canteen service, children compost all organic waste.
Art lessons have been the occasion to work on the creation of an individual CIPEC International School, Eco School logo. An exhibition in Cipec’s yurt housed all the proposals and the winning logo was chosen by vote.
Finally, in June, the school participated in the 18th edition ‘Calanques Propres’ organized by Mer Terre in association with Un Océan de Vie.
All these actions were submitted to the ECO Ecole Association, which decided to award the accreditation ECO School to CIPEC International School.
For 2021-2022, the school will work on Biodiversity.
